Thank you all for participating in the Week of Action for our brother Tarek Mehanna by making phone calls and sending faxes to the prosecutor's office all last week. As you may know from calling, Chakravarty was forced to disable his voicemail for the week, routing all calls to his secretary. As many people have expressed, the secretary and operator who did take the calls were audibly upset by this outpouring of community support and deviation from "business as usual."

The only response from Chakravarty's office was a call from a paralegal on his behalf, who said "no comment."

On Friday, a delegation from the Tarek Mehanna Support Committee went to the US Attorney's office to demand a response to our concerns. An administrator told our delegation that they had received our calls and faxes and that they had been expecting us. However, he was equally unresponsive, directing us to fill out a complaint form and wait to hear back from the office. We have yet to hear back from them.

The prosecutor's response (or lack thereof) to the week of action reflects the typical reaction of corrupt institutions of power when called out for unjust policy. When conscious, organized people demand accountability and transparency in a case that clearly violates basic civil rights, their only response is "no comment."

Given the history of severe prosecutorial  misconduct at the Massachusetts US Attorney's office, and its recent exposure in the press (http://www.wbur.org/specials/evidence-of-misconduct), one would expect at least a semblance of interest in the concerns of the residents of Massachusetts.

We will continue to seek justice in the legal system for Tarek Mehanna and will send an update soon with further action steps.
